Soundscape of a street-level train crossing, with the signal warning for an approaching train: download in .wav format.
The sound of a metal door: download in .wma format. Explanations: the microphone is placed at the surface of a large metallic door. The door is then striken at diverse positions with varying intensity and distance to the microphone.
Walking on dead leaves: download in .wav format. Explanations: Sony PCM-D1 recorder taped to a shoe, at ground level, while walking in dead leaves.
Re-enacting a childhood game 1: download in .wav format. Explanations: electricity street works in Japan often use hard plastic sheaths to protect wires. These sheaths are hard enough for a child to stick his/her head inside it. A game that one of the participants used to play was to ask friends to strike the sheath as hard as possible while he listens inside it. The devastating noise that resulted was scary and fun to listen to. For this recording, we placed a Sony PCM-D1 recorder inside such a sheath, and stroke it.
Re-enacting a childhood game 2: download in .wav format. Explanations: recording of children playing the "darumasan ga koronda" game, which reminded participants of their own childhood. "darumasan ga koronda" is similar to the English game of "red light, green light" and the French game "1,2,3 soleil". At the end of the recording, one can hear the children shouting "touch" as they reach the base.
Mixed soundscapes used for painting experiments.
Mix of 3 soundscapes (ATM, train station and fish market), used for the collective painting performance (see image and video sections): download in .mp3 format.
Mix of the "darumasan ga koronda" sequence, with "sound of a metal door" and "walking on leaves", used for the sound body dance group work (see image and video sections): download in .mp3 format.
